Zambia

Zambia is a landlocked country in Southern Africa, bordered by Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. The Zambezi River and Lake Kariba form the frontier with Zimbabwe. Victoria Falls – described by the Kololo tribe as “the smoke that thunders”- at Livingstone, is one of the most spectacular sights in the world. Zambia is a relatively non-commercial safari destination with small safari camps.

There are vast areas of untapped wilderness, many of which are national parks. In the east and northeast, the country rises to a plateau 1200m (3937ft) high, covered by savannah, small trees and grassy plains. Here the magnificent North and South Luangwa National Parks have an incredible diversity of wildlife. These parks offer some of the most rewarding safari experiences on the continent. For the more adventurous, a walking safari is not to be missed.

To the south in the Lower Zambezi reserve, motorboat and canoe trips down the Zambezi River complement vehicle and walking safaris. To the west the Kafue National Park is a huge and remote wilderness with a handful of superb camps.
