Namib-Naukluft National Park

Introducing Namib-Naukluft National Park, a massive area of 49,768 km2 (19,216 sq mi). Consisting of a variety of unusual and unique animals and flora. The Namib-Naukluft has a area larger than Switzerland, and is Africa’s largest game park, the fourth largest in the world.

The main attraction to this area is Sossusvlei; located in the souther part of the Namib Desert, known for its high dunes with pink to orange color. Over the years the iron in the sand rust’s, changing the color of the dunes, the older the dune, the more vivid the color. Some of the dunes in this area reach to almost 400 meters, the largest one being called “Big Daddy”. Other dunes have been dated to around one billion years old. These dunes have been petrified over time, turning them into solid rock.

With the Namibian authorities improving infrastructure, and new accommodations close by, this area is becoming more accessible. If you are a photographic enthusiast or you like to 4×4 through iconic rusty-orange hills, with petrified trees and skeletal remains, this unique world is definitely something to cross off your bucket list.
